PACAYA VOLCANO

In the morning we head towards the Pacific Coast to climb the Pacaya Volcano (2,500 mets.) which is an impressive active volcano, Stromboli type. The Pacaya Volcano is one of the 37 volcanoes in Guatemala, located between the “departamentos” of Escuintla and Guatemala. Upon arrival to the town of San Vicente Pacaya, where we begin our climb of approximately 1.5 hours until arriving to the top, where lava rivers have invaded the landscape. LAKE ATITLAN (Santiago Atitlán y Santa Catarina Palopó)

Departure to Guatemala’s Highlands to Lake Atitlán. A lake formed by a collapsed volcanic crater which is surrounded by three impressive volcanoes (San Pedro, Atitlán and Tolimán) and 12 picturesque Maya-Cakchiquel and Maya-Tzutuhil villages. Today we will visit two of these villages.
Upon arrival to the town of Panajachel, departure by boat to the Maya-Tzutuhil village of Santiago Atitlán, famous for Maximón, an effigy that is widely worshiped by the inhabitants of Santiago. Santiago also offers a variety of handicrafts, colorful textiles, woodcarvings and naïf paintings. Afterwards we continue to Santa Catarina Palopó, known for the colorful turquoise costume the locals wear. Lunch at Hotel Villa Santa Catarina.
Return to Guatemala City.

In the morning departure to Chichicastenango, where you will see the most colorful and picturesque outdoor market in Guatemala, where every Thursdays and Sundays locals from the region, gather to buy and sell fruits, vegetables, flowers, grains, animals, textiles and handicrafts. A highlight is the visit to the Santo Tomás Church, where the Maya-Quiché pray to their gods according to the old Maya traditions. Free time for Shopping.

TIKAL

Early in the morning, transfer from your hotel to the airport, to board the flight to Flores, Petén. Upon arrival,transfer to Tikal National Park. Declared “Cultural Heritage of Humankind” by UNESCO, this majestic Mayan city is considered the largest and most monumental of all of the sites discovered in the Mayan World.
Guided walking visit to the most important plazas, complexes and temples, enjoying as well the tropical forest, nesting place of hundreds of exotic birds and the habitat of a wide variety of wildlife. After lunch visit the museums and transfer back to the airport to take your flight to Guatemala City.
